Simple Skin-clearing Secrets for Acne

  • Acne, Many of us dread the arrival of these ugly pus-filled bumps. If you’re a teenager, you just can’t wait to be liberated from it. If you’re an adult, you can’t believe it’s back. But let’s face it. Having these pimples is not going to make you the life of the party. But if you follow some simple common-sense measures, you can prevent outbreaks and continue to put your best face forward.

First, it’s important to understand why adults develop acne. There are a variety of reasons.

One cause of outbreaks are hormonal changes. While outbreaks occur often before menstruation, few low-dose oral contraceptives cause fluctuations in hormone levels and subsequent relief of acne for some women. Stress and sleep is a known factor. If you think stress could trigger pimple outbreaks, it's your call to do something about it. Working in front of the deep-fat fryer at a fast-food joint is no different. Excessive oils may cause an insult to the skin causing acne. Chemicals in the workplace and in cosmetics too can cause acne, as well as some drugs. There are barbiturates, lithium and corticosteroids to name a few.

But the major determining factor is genes. How much and how quickly you are to develop these tiny (or sometimes, massive) red pimples depends largely on genetics. If you have inherited the skin characteristic that makes you more likely to develop zits, follow these mind-blowing tips that can help zap out the sap.

If there’s a best way to deal with acne, it’s drugs.

Most dermatologists believe that benzoyl peroxide is the most effective over-the-counter ingredient for acne. Topical and oral antibiotics and retinoids may also be prescribed. Keep in mind that putting too much would do no good. Start with the lowest concentration. Apply these medications on most acne-prone areas that can include your entire face, the back and the chest.

    Stop the aggression.

Vigorous washing can only dry up the skin but not the plugged oil ducts. Likewise, picking and popping might end up gathering more infection than you expect. Chances are, your ace will be full of scars in the long run. Acne has something to do with cleanliness. Try not constantly touching your face. Wash properly using a mild soap that best suits your skin type. Give up the oil-based cosmetics and go for noncomedogenic, water-based ones. Loose powder may also be advisable.

    Diet dilemmas.

Don’t blame the goodies. Chocolate, nuts, or greasy foods have not been proven to cause teenage acne. But if you often see a correlation, try avoiding the offending food as much as possible.

I hope these tips and information appear valuable to you. Visit your physician every once in a while. It’s extremely important to see a dermatologist before scarring occurs. While some don’t invest much on skin care, it’s extremely important to take good care of it not only for aesthetic but also for health purposes. Don’t risk spreading the infection all over your entire body and to others.

Acne and Oily Skin Care Tips

  • If you have oily skin, you are likely prone to acne as well. This is just one of the disadvantages of having this skin type. Other downsides are having visibly larger pores and the embarrassing shine on the nose, forehead and cheeks, also known as the T-zone. Summertime is the worst season for someone who has oily skin hence the appropriate skin care regimen is needed to keep excess oil at bay. The right products are also needed to prevent acne from developing. In the following paragraphs, you will learn tips for proper acne and oily skin care.

Finding the right facial wash is a must for someone who has oily and acne-prone skin. Skin experts advise the use of a gentle cleanser that is oil-free and formulated with 2 percent salicylic acid to fight acne. This ingredient works by unclogging the pores with oil and dirt without leaving the skin dry. Remember to pick out a cream-type cleanser for the cold season and a foaming cleanser during the hot season. Cleanse your face twice a day, in the morning and evening. If acne leaves your skin reddish, you can use Aloe Vera gel as a natural facial cleanser. It is effective in reducing skin redness and contains natural ingredients that can treat pimples quickly.

The next step to an acne and oily skincare regimen is toning and moisturizing. Be careful in using products on oily skin type because harsh products can leave the skin dry. You don’t want this to happen because once the skin misses on moisture, the sebaceous glands will act double time to produce more sebum. So, to avoid this from happening, learn to treat your skin well by avoiding alcohol-based toners, hyrdroquinone and mineral oil. Serum or light lotion should be used as moisturizers for oily skin. Oil-free, water-based and hypoallergenic preparations are also recommended as to not leave the skin oilier. If there is a moisturizer brand that has acne-fighting formulations and SPF15 or higher, then that would be hitting two birds with one stone.

Exfoliation is also essential in keeping the skin shine and blemish free. Large pores, excess oil, dirt and dead skin cells are the perfect ingredients for pimples. Exfoliating your skin once or twice a week can clear pores with dead skin cells and stimulates new cells to form. Remember to use a gentle exfoliating scrub and be careful around blemishes as to not irritate and inflame your face all the more. After this, go ahead and pamper yourself with a facial mask. A deep-cleansing, clay-based mask can help tighten the pores, absorb excess oil and make your skin feel refreshed.

Moving on to makeup, a lot of women know how to care for oily and blemish-prone face but most of them fall short in choosing the right makeup for their skin type. For oily skin, using liquid foundation is not a good idea. Especially under the hot weather, oil-based liquid foundations will easily melt. If your face is oily and you don’t want to end up with blemished skin, it’s best if you use oil-free makeup like tinted moisturizers and mineral makeup. For a just-pinched look that lasts a long time, a powder or gel blush does the trick. Be sure to cleanse your face completely from makeup before retiring to bed.

Blotting paper is one of the niftiest beauty inventions. Use these to blot your face everytime you feel that you’re already shining with oil. It works well in touching up your makeup without smudging it. It is also better if you wear your makeup light to keep it from caking in the middle of the day. Another beauty trick to make your cosmetics intact all day and night is to use a makeup setting spray. Spray some on just before leaving the house.

Lastly, use acne spot treatments only if you have seasonal acne. Otherwise, consult a trusted dermatologist for prescription acne medication to address severe acne problems. Be careful in using acne treatments because most of them are too strong. It can also make the skin dry and sun sensitive so be sure to follow instructions carefully (acne medications are usually applied minimally and at night) and apply sunblock lotion. Following these helpful tips will ensure skin that is glowing with health and not with too much oil.

    Home Remedies for Acne

  • Affecting millions of people around the world, acne is an inflammatory condition of the skin and comes in many types and severity levels. Some types of acne actually require medical treatment, although others may be treated with home remedies that are not only natural but also keep you from spending a fortune. As such, these home remedies are great for individuals who are annoyed with their skin condition while being on a tight budget.

Before you proceed with any home treatment of acne, you will need to understand a few things: First, since every person’s skin makeup is different, you will likely need to try the different home remedies before you find which one will be most effective for your particular skin problem. Sometimes, one remedy that works for a person may not necessarily work for everyone else; as such, there are typically no guarantees for home remedy recommendations. At least, you will not have to worry too much about budgetary constraints, since home remedies typically call for things that you already have in your refrigerator or in your garden. Do note, also, that home remedies typically take a while to have any effect on your acne, so patience will definitely need to be a virtue. Lastly, try to test a small area on your skin first before covering the entire area so as to make sure you will not have any adverse effect to the product.

The following are well-known home remedies for acne:

    1. Egg whites – Egg whites are beaten and then used as a face mask for 15 minutes per day. The efficacy of this treatment comes from the healing protein found in eggs; this makes egg whites effective as well as practical for treating acne by yourself at home. After 15 minutes, remove the egg whites and rinse off your face using warm water.

    2. Oatmeal – Oatmeal is another home remedy for acne that is very easy to use. Used as a mark, oatmeal absorbs excess oils; these oils are typically what contribute to a build-up of acne. First, cook the oatmeal and cool it off. Then, spread a generous amount of the oatmeal as a mask on your face. Leave it there for about 15 minutes before rinsing off with warm water, and dry your face with a towel. Using oatmeal masks regularly over a few weeks have had people report excellent results.

    3. Aloe vera – Aloe vera is another effective home remedy for acne, popularly used over centuries not just externally for the skin, including burns and damaged skin, but internally for other conditions. When using it externally, all you have to do is to cut the aloe vera plant and rub it directly onto your face. After you rub it in, let the juices sit on your face. The plant is known for reducing inflammation as well as relieving the discomfort of acne, thanks to its anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antiseptic properties.

    4. Apple cider vinegar – This is popularly called the “acid mantle” as it helps restore the natural condition of one’s skin by protecting the surface from bacteria. Of course, this typically happens only on a temporary basis. Dilute the apple cider vinegar with water, and apply it to your skin using a clean cotton ball. This kills bacteria and also increases your skin’s acidity, helping clear the acne with several applications.

    5. Baking soda – Baking soda is another well-known acne home remedy for its antifungal and antiseptic properties. When applied on the skin, it helps to regulate the skin’s acidity by making the pH neither too basic nor too acidic. Mix some baking soda with water to form a paste, and apply it to y0ur acne-laden skin; the compound will neutralize the pH of the area. Then, wash it off, and it will remove dead skin while also cleaning and unclogging your pores. For people with sensitive skin, be careful about leaving the paste solution too long, since it may result in redness.

    6. Garlic – Garlic is well-known for its antifungal, antiviral, and antibiotic characteristics, and is recommended to be used as a face wipe or even taken orally. Dilute the garlic with water before wiping onto the acne-infected area; repeated applications will result in the bacteria being killed.
